Aren't we tired of these "Victory Just Around The Corner" statements that misunderstand the basic nature of the enemy? To the bottom of my soul, I don't think General William Westmoreland should be predicting victory just around the corner in Viet Nam.
... Sorry, just a little deja vu flashback. LSD and battle fatique is hard on dogs, too, you know!
For crying out loud, we know now from their own words that Nixon and Kissinger didn't have much hope for victory in Viet Nam from early in his first term. Nonetheless, he willingly encouraged the myth of "Victory Around The Corner in Viet Nam, Except We're Being Backstabbed By The Defeatist Liberal Media". (Listen to the Nixon/Kissinger tapes released in recent years if you doubt me.)
Now, look up how many Armerican soldiers died after Nixon came to the conclusion that the war in Viet Nam was not winnable?
And, his "decent interval"? good grief!
Forgive my utter and complete cynicism about "victory around the corner" talk in Iraq and Afghanistan. I've heard it all before! I'm as American as you. But, this is not a battle against a nation. Can our military vanquish the fundamental religious elements within the Muslim world? No. And, then neither can we declare victory against Al Qaeda!
Pooch "I'm a Hapless Pawn of Liberal Media" Doggy Dog
