2009 Fatality: Brooklynn Grace Milburn Killed by Rottweiler

I just visited my new granddaughter.  I like kids a lot.  This tears me up...

Fort Worth, TX - A 3-year-old girl was mauled to death by her neighbor's rottweiler. Brooklynn Grace Milburn was playing in her back yard when she reportedly crawled through a hole in the fence, according to police. The 17-year-old rottweiler attacked her in the head, face and neck. The family's pastor, Mike Tucker, of the Seventh Day Adventist Church said the incident was "sickeningly tragic" and that the family is devastated.
Police received the call at about 6 p.m. Thursday in the 3900 block of Buckhorn Place in north Fort Worth. Brooklynn was rushed to Cook Children's Medical Center, but doctors could not save her. Tucker said the girl's mother, father, grandfather and 5-year-old brother were inside the house when she was playing in her back yard. The hole in the fence was so small, nobody thought the child could even fit through it, he said.
Prosecutors are still deciding whether charges will be filed in connection with a tragic dog attack that killed little Brooklynn. This may indicate there is evidence that the child was "pulled through" the fence by the dog. The dog's owner said it was the first time her pet had ever "hurt" anyone. Yet fatal attacks by rottweilers and pit bulls are frequently the dog's first attack.

An article on mauling deaths in the 1990s from University of Wisconsin...

Pit bulls still have the lead in fatal attacks at 66 mauling deaths between 1979 and 1998 involving at least one pit bull according to the study. Rottweilers were recorded for 37 mauling deaths mostly during the 1990s. German shepherds followed with 17, Huskies at 15, Malamutes at 12, and Doberman pinschers with nine.
