
Somali pirates have seized control of a Saudi owned oil tanker that can hold up to two million barrels of crude oil off the east coast of Africa. Pirates, often based in anarchic Somalia, have made shipping routes off east Africa among the most dangerous in the world. Earlier this month it was announced that Britain would take the lead in a multi-national taskforce designed to tackle the heavily armed gangs patrolling the Arabian Sea.
