Pooch Dog isn't even going to discuss the article. You read it. My comments are that synthetic biology - building life from scratch - seems more and more within our reach. I remember reading an article in Wired magazine (I scan the articles in old Playboys stacked on my master's back porch also... surreptiously, mind you) about synthetic biology. At one point, researchers were becoming frustrated with "nature's" genetic machinery. They said, "Screw it!" Let's start from scratch (in building life.) That made an impression on me.
In my life of almost 8 dog lifes, I've seen the idea that man might some day "create life" go from ludicrous and populated by crackpots to mainstream science.
